Most of the time I recognize that, because I’m young, many policies, like school district seats or property tax changes, affect other people more than me. I always vote and vote early, because I remember when I was a kid it was always something I looked forward to do, like being able to drive or go to college. Voting is important to make sure that more voices are heard.

With low turnouts there are only a few who will control what happens to the community instead of the majority being heard. When I vote I know that not everything I mark on my ballot will be in the majority, but that it is still out there when all numbers are tallied, makes me feel just a little important. There are many times we can’t decide on how a major piece of legislation will pass, like in the Supreme Court or on Capitol Hill, but this is the choice I get to make for the future government until the next elections.

I voted for what I think will be a positive change for where I live, which I hope everyone wants as well. If we aren’t putting in effort to make our country a better place for future generations, then there isn’t a need for voting.

But when I think about the fact that I live in a country where I can vote and my voice will actually be heard? It’s something that I love to do and plan to keep doing as long as I can.
